Waiting for Baby (Harriet Ziefert)

Theme: Contemporary Realistic Fiction

Age Range: K-2nd Grade. Very easy read. Characters are easy to identify. This definitely appeals to the fact that this age group is usually curious about their own world. Also, some children at this age can relate to the story

Plot: This book is about a small boy name Max. Max is extremely anxious and anticipating the arrival of his new sibling. Because he could hardly wait, he does things that he believe will make the baby come faster. Some of the things he did was play the drums for his mom's tummy and also sings to it. When he is not singing or drumming to his mom's stomach, he is talking to it. Max grows impatient and figures that the baby just isn't coming, until the day Daddy takes Mommy to the hospital.

Characters: Max, Mommy, Daddy

Setting: The book is set in the home of Max's family and the hospital

Theme: patience is a virtue

Illustrations: The pictures in this book are mixed media. At some points in the book they look computer generated and at others it looks like the illustrator, Emily Bolam, put paints, pens, or ink to good use.
