Genre: Traditional
Age Range: 1st - 3rd grade. It is a simple read. It can definitely be completed in one setting. It also incorporates elements of literature that attract the eyes of such young readers. The bright illustrations along with the fantasy like quality of talking animals appeal to them.
Plot: While watching others work and bring him food, a lazy fox spends his day doing absolutely nothing. His mother then one day tells him to be like his brother and get his own food. While in an orchard he comes across some grapes that look succulent to him. The grapes were on a vine and draped high in a tree over a branch. The fox took a great leap, but missed the grapes. After continually jumping and pouncing desperately trying to reach the grapes, he gives up. He then turns his nose up and snickers that the grapes were probably sour anyways.
Characters: A small family of Fox
Setting: An Orchard
Theme: It becomes easy to hate something that you can't have. Also, the things that we work hard for and do accomplish are that much better because of your effort.
Illustrations: The book was illustrated by John Cboins. This books uses many shapes and has a strong use of lines.
Equity: There were no equity issues present in the book.
